12 best dessert shops in Istanbul

Choose a dessert worth stopping for, then build a neighbourhood walk around it. Twelve addresses, two shores and a map you can take with you.

Quick answer

For a compact first outing, choose Galata–Karaköy for cheesecake and baklava, or Kadıköy–Moda for Kup Griye, confectionery, chocolate and ice cream. Treat Kurtuluş, Beşiktaş, Altunizade and Suadiye as separate neighbourhood stops. Choose two or three sweets, not twelve compulsory orders.

Istanbul's dessert scene is bigger than a single tray of baklava. Milk puddings belong beside profiteroles, cheesecake, künefe, ice cream and cookies. Our selection starts with the dessert you want and the neighbourhood you are visiting. It brings together six stops on each side of the city without asking you to spend a day chasing all twelve. Numbers identify places on the map; they are not tasting scores. We checked online shop information and map listings, rather than claiming a new round of in-person tastings.

Göreme Muhallebicisi

Kurtuluş · Şişli
Milk desserts

Choose Göreme when you want Istanbul's milk-dessert tradition rather than another chocolate stop. Muhallebi and fırın sütlaç give this selection a different rhythm: a bowl, a spoon and a neighbourhood break in Kurtuluş. This is a separate excursion from the Galata–Karaköy cluster, so include it when you are already exploring Şişli. The pin refers to Kurtuluş Caddesi, not the Göktürk address currently shown on the brand's website.

İnci Pastanesi

Beyoğlu · Mis Sokak
Profiteroles

İnci is the focused choice for profiteroles in Beyoğlu. Its story dates to 1944, but the useful detail for a visit is the current Mis Sokak address: do not navigate to its former İstiklal premises. Put it into an İstiklal walk and keep the order simple. The chocolate-sauced choux dessert supplies a clear contrast to baklava; there is no need to treat every patisserie in the list as a full-menu tasting.

Mendel’s Chocolatier

Beşiktaş · Şair Nedim Caddesi
Chocolate

Mendel’s adds a contemporary chocolatier to the European-side selection. Its own menu highlights chocolate-led creations and Sizzling Brownie, making it a useful stop if that is the flavour you are looking for. The pin is for the Beşiktaş Chocolatier at 18/A, rather than another branch or the neighbouring Bakery listing. Pair the visit with Beşiktaş itself; this is a separate cluster from Galata.

Savoy Pastanesi

Cihangir · Sıraselviler Caddesi
Patisserie

Savoy is the Cihangir stop for a broader patisserie counter, with wafers and chocolates among the categories on its own site. It suits a different decision from İnci: browse what is available that day instead of arriving for one compulsory dessert. Sıraselviler Caddesi connects this stop to a Cihangir walk. If you want something to take away, ask the shop which items travel well rather than assuming every cake will survive a long city outing.

Viyana Kahvesi · Galata

Galata · Büyük Hendek Caddesi
Cheesecake

For a cheesecake-and-coffee pause around Galata, Viyana Kahvesi makes the list's dessert range broader than Turkish classics alone. We use the Galata branch on Büyük Hendek Caddesi 19/A. Galata Tower on Şahkapısı Sokak is another branch: the names are close, the doors are different. Choose this stop if cheesecake is what you want, then continue towards Karaköy for a very different pastry tradition.

Karaköy Güllüoğlu

Karaköy · Kemankeş Caddesi
Baklava

Karaköy Güllüoğlu is the dedicated baklava stop in this selection. Begin with a small choice of pistachio varieties rather than confusing a large order with a useful tasting. The branch on Kemankeş Caddesi 67 fits a Karaköy visit and can follow Galata. For a gift or onward travel, discuss the journey and storage with staff: freshly filled desserts and products intended for longer travel are different decisions.

7

Mamikler Künefe

Altunizade · Üsküdar
Künefe & katmer

Mamikler is the hot-dessert choice on the Asian side. Its official range includes classic künefe and several katmer styles, so choose the dish before ordering a portion size. Altunizade is not the same neighbourhood cluster as Kadıköy and Moda; make it a deliberate detour if künefe is a priority. The live place pin is more useful than copying an older street address, because address descriptions differ between listings.

Baylan · Kadıköy

Kadıköy · Muvakkıthane Caddesi
Kup Griye

Baylan gives a Kadıköy walk a specific dessert destination: Kup Griye. The brand traces the dessert to 1954, while this guide points to the Kadıköy branch on Muvakkıthane Caddesi rather than Bebek or Galataport. Choose it for an ice-cream-based patisserie pause. Şekerci Cafer Erol is another centre-of-Kadıköy stop, so a seated dessert here and a boxed sweet there can serve different purposes.

Selected branch: Caferağa, Muvakkıthane Cd. No:9A, 34710 Kadıköy/İstanbul, Türkiye

Asuman · Moda

Moda · Şair Nefi Sokak
Chocolate

Asuman is the chocolate-focused Moda stop. The official shop list identifies the Şair Nefi Sokak branch at 9/A; use that address instead of the brand's separate ice-cream or patisserie addresses. It is a sensible alternative when your walk calls for a chocolate dessert rather than another traditional pudding. Combine the visit with Moda, and decide whether this or Ali Usta better matches the dessert you actually want.

Şekerci Cafer Erol · Kadıköy

Kadıköy · Yasa Caddesi
Confectionery

Şekerci Cafer Erol is especially useful when the dessert decision is also a gift decision. The brand's range includes lokum, hard candies, chocolates and nut pastes, while its official Kadıköy listing gives Yasa Caddesi 19. This is a different kind of visit from sitting down to a large dessert. Ask about packing and storage for the specific sweets you choose; a box of mixed products does not have one universal travel rule.

Meşhur Dondurmacı Ali Usta

Moda · Moda Caddesi
Ice cream

Ali Usta is the ice-cream choice on Moda Caddesi. It works well as a shorter sweet stop before continuing your walk, rather than as another full patisserie visit. Choose from the flavours actually available at the counter; we do not turn an old online flavour list into a promise. The map pin identifies the Moda shop. Check its current opening information before a special journey, especially outside the period when you would normally plan an ice-cream stop.

Joséphine Cookies & Inspirations

Suadiye · Halimağa Sokak
Cookies

Joséphine is the cookie specialist in the selection, with chocolate-chip, brownie and pistachio-cookie products on its own site. Its Suadiye shop is on Halimağa Sokak 22/A. Treat this as a Bağdat Caddesi-area stop rather than the next few steps after central Kadıköy: it sits farther east. For take-away, ask what is available individually that day; the website's multi-piece boxes are not a promise about counter portions.

Take the list into Google Maps

Download the KML or CSV file. On a computer, open Google My Maps, create a map, add a layer and choose Import. Upload the file; for CSV choose Latitude and Longitude for location and Name for labels. This imports the twelve places into your own map; opening My Maps alone does not save the list.

How to plan your dessert stops

A useful plan is built around small clusters. Start with Viyana Kahvesi in Galata and continue to Karaköy Güllüoğlu if you want cheesecake and baklava on one outing. In Kadıköy, Baylan and Şekerci Cafer Erol cover different needs before you decide whether to continue to Asuman or Ali Usta in Moda. Suadiye and Altunizade need separate travel decisions. Use the live directions for the day's transport; the illustration that inspired this selection is not a scale map.

Questions before your sweet stop

Which dessert area is easiest for a first visit?

Choose Galata–Karaköy if that is already on your route. Kadıköy–Moda is another compact cluster. The right choice depends on which side you are visiting and whether you prefer baklava, chocolate, puddings or ice cream.

Can I visit all twelve in one day?

They are spread across both shores. We recommend choosing a small cluster and two or three desserts, then saving the other addresses for another visit.

Does the map save every shop into my Google Maps account?

No. Place links open individual Google Maps records. To keep the full set, download the KML or CSV and import it into a Google My Maps map while signed in.

Is the numbered list a scored restaurant ranking?

No. Numbers match the map pins. This is an editorial selection by dessert type and neighbourhood, supported by online sources rather than a new tasting panel.
